Was ist richtig?

MAHAG Badge riddle

On October 27, 1958, my beetle was shipped from lower saxony Wolfsburg to far away Munich to the large VW Dealership MAHAG to be sold further from there.

Back then - as well as oftentimes today - cars were badged by their dealers to show where they came from. I believe that my bug was also equipped with such a badge, the three holes and the dust print at least indicate this.

Now, I've seen a picture from such a MAHAG badge on a 58 - but it is turned upside down!!!

Who of you can help me with this??? What's right??

I think your tag was more than likely the original dealer tag, not a MAHAG one, while the MAHAG made their tags ONLY in the shape you have in the photo,(my car is also a MAHAG car delivered in May 1957 = Ovali) I would research the VW dealers were the car was originally sold and see what kind of tag shapes they had, there you will find the answer. Thanks Tom! I guess, you're most certainly right. All MAHAG badges I've seen in the meantime were like the one I've posted.
Anyhow, the "birth certificate" from VW states that my 58 has been delivered to MAHAG... but it still could be that another dealer put his badge on it at some point in time.
I definitely need to research the history of the car at some time.
